Quality vs. Quantity
  • The quality of your Posts contents are valued much greater than the quantity (in number) of your Posts.  We'd rather see the quality and relevance of your Posts/Replies.  A few GREAT posts will go much further in building the Church and evangelization, rather than the quantity of posts/replies.  (For example, rather than Replying to a posts which says "I agree with your belief/position", respond with an affirmation and explanation that details WHY you agree, or can empathize with the Posters' belief or thoughts.)


Use References or Resources

Support your belief or position by including legitimate Catholic references and resources which support it.  Examples include:
  • Sacred Scripture.
  • the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).
  • a Papal encyclical.
  • a Catholic doctrinal or dogmatic resource.
  • Quotation of a canonized Saint or Doctor of the Church.

We believe that the Bible is truly the word of God because it is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
  • God is the author of Sacred Scripture: the divinely revealed realities in Scripture were written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Church holds that the books of the Old and New Testaments are sacred and canonical because they were written under inspiration and have God as their author.
  • The Sacred Scriptures contain the Word of God and, because they are inspired, they are truly the Word of God.
  • The inspiration is real but not "mechanical": God acted in them and by them, so that the human authors still wrote as true authors of everything and only those things which He wanted.
  • Sacred Scripture teaches solidly, faithfully and without error the truth God intended for our salvation.

So the proper Catholic statement is: the Bible is God’s Word in Scripture because it is inspired, but it is received and interpreted within the Church's living Tradition.

Studying the Bible as interpreted by the Church, its teachings, we can deepen our understanding of His love, grace, and purpose for our lives.

At the same time, Catholics emphasize that Scripture is not read in isolation:
  • There is a close connection and communication between Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture; together they are received and revered with the same loyalty and reverence.
  • Scripture must be interpreted rightly: because God speaks through men in human fashion, interpreters must carefully consider the meaning intended by the sacred writers, literary forms, and the living tradition of the whole Church, and the final judgment belongs to the Church.
  • In the Church’s life, the Word of God in Scripture is central, especially in the liturgy, preaching, and instruction.
