The Seven Faults & Weaknesses
The faults and weaknesses that we struggle with are typically not sinful, but if left unchecked can lead to sin. The following list is some of the more common ones – Stress/Anxiety, Fear, Laziness, Selfishness, Doubt, Indifference, Lack of Self-Control.
Overcoming our weaknesses is a balancing act and is dependent on the grace of God. We should not ignore a weakness, but neither should we obsess over it. A helpful option is to identify the areas of abundance that God has graced you with, physical and spiritual, and invest from your abundance in ways that can help you shore up your weaknesses and help others grow spiritually. "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15)
Frequent reflection on related scripture verses, "The Sword of the Spirit" can help break the bonds that bind us. Ask the Lord for help and discernment of what to work on each day. Use this card to aid your efforts to shore up your weaknesses.

Stress/Anxiety
- So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today's trouble is enough for today. (Matthew 6:34)
- Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)
Fear
- For fear is nothing but a giving up of the helps that come from reason; and hope, defeated by this inward weakness, prefers ignorance of what causes the torment. (Wisdom 17:12-13)
- Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
Laziness
- For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: Anyone unwilling to work should not eat. For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. (2 Thessalonians 3:10-11)
- But his master replied, 'You wicked and lazy slave! You knew, did you, that I reap where I did not sow, and gather where I did not scatter? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received what was my own with interest. (Matthew 25:26-27)
Doubt
- Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, 'You of little faith, why did you doubt?' (Matthew 14:31)
- for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord. (James 1:7-8)
Indifference
- So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:16)
- Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. (Romans 12:11)
Lack of Self-Control
- For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)
- Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one. (1 Corinthians 9:25)
Selfishness
- No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. (Matthew 6:24)
- For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. (Galatians 5:13)
- Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)
